Inspiring and educating about kai in Aotearoa
Our mission is to inspire and educate about kai in Aotearoa.
Our mahi happens mainly in three areas:
We facilitate wānanga on a range of different topics connected to kai, and can cater to different ages and group sizes.
Our wānanga are intended to connect people to the ancestral ways of kai allowing physical, cultural, social and environmental well-being and connection to place and memories.
Reach out to us to inquire about a standalone or series of wānanga.
As a way to inspire and share matauranga, we share content online about kai in Aotearoa. This includes tips for gardening as the seasons change, tutorials for preserving, kitchen recipes, and also updates throughout our wero kai each year.
You can follow the linked /images below to see some of our posts.
As an annual challenge, we enter a period of only eating kai from the māra kai (garden), moana (ocean), and ngahere (forest). During the wero kai, all of the kai we eat is produced and gathered by us, or traded for kai produced and gathered within our community.
The wero kai is an opportunity for us to expand our knowledge on growing, foraging, hunting, and preserving so that we have more knowledge to teach and share. It’s also a time we enjoy; connecting to the place we live in, eating nourishing food, and exploring an alternative way of being in the world.
